Sometimes the amount of organization that needs to take place in your home can feel overwhelming. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to keep things in order, and it doesn’t take long for various areas of your home to spiral out of control. But, you don’t always need to think of organizing as a large, daunting project. Breaking home organization into smaller, more manageable pieces is just as effective. So, here are five small organizing projects you can tackle in a short amount of time this weekend!
We’re probably all familiar with the avalanche of bins, lids and bowls that occurs when our tupperware cabinet is a total disaster. There’s no doubt, that cascading pile of plastic containers can be tough to deal with. Take an hour or two this Saturday to make sure all of your containers have matching lids. Stack together all of the like-sized containers and them store them on top of a stack of the matching lids. You’ll have a tupperware storage system that is clean, simple and functional!
2. Gardening Equipment
With summer just around the corner, you’ve probably already hauled out your flower pots, gardening gloves, grass seed and lawn tools. And, if you’re anything like most other people, you’ve probably just left it all in a messy pile in your garage or shed. Head outside this weekend in order to put all of your gardening equipment back where it belongs. If you don’t currently have an existing place to store these items, purchase an inexpensive shelving unit and some wall hooks in order to quickly tidy up your outdoor supplies!
Your pantry is probably one of the most frequently accessed spots in your home. With so many different hands digging through to find the perfect snack, your pantry can quickly transform into a disorganized jumble. Reserve a few hours this weekend in order to take everything out of your pantry, and then return it in an organized manner. If necessary, stop out and pick up a spice rack and a few storage bins to fully restore organization in your pantry. The easier you make the organization system, the more likely things are to get returned to their proper place!
4. Linen Closet
You know that spare closet in your hallway that houses all of your extra towels, sheets and blankets? We’re willing to bet that you don’t pay too much attention to it. So, it could probably use a little bit of freshening up. Straighten up your linen closet this weekend by re-folding all of your stored linens and stacking them in a way that’s functional and organized. Storing your folded sheets inside of their matching pillow case is a great way to free up space and keep all of your similar linens together. As a bonus, spray all of your spare linens with a fabric deodorizer so that they smell fresh and clean the next time you need to use them!
5. Entertainment Equipment
Whether you’re a movie buff or a serious video gamer, you likely have a bunch of DVDs, games, CDs and remotes strewn all across your living space. Take a minute to return all of those remotes to their rightful homes and put all of your discs back into their matching cases. Once you’ve matched up everything with a case, return them to your entertainment center or storage shelf in an organized way. Sort them alphabetically, by category or any other way that works for you. Just make sure to group them in a way that makes sense to you, and is also relatively easy to maintain.
Organizing doesn’t always have to mean taking on a huge, overwhelming mess. These small organizing projects are quick and simple. So, you’ll have no trouble tackling them in your spare time this weekend!
