California State University, Long Beach (also known as Cal State Long Beach, Long Beach State, CSLB, LBSU, or the Beach), is located at the southwestern coastal tip of Los Angeles County. It is the second largest campus of the California State University system and one of the largest in CA by enrollment. It was named the fifth most diverse university in the West by U.S. News and World Report. It is one of the West Coast’s top student universities in terms of its student body’s racial diversity. Among its well known academics, the school is nationally known for it College of Arts and its art museum, and is home to the largest publicly funded art school west of the Mississippi.

Cal State Long Beach has many notable alumni, including Nicholas Cage, Johnny Depp, Steven Spielberg, Ben Affleck, Jason Giambi, Tim Burton and Misty May-Treanor. Karen and Richard Carpenter are the namesakes of the Carpenter Performing Arts Center.

Every March, since 1970, Long Beach has been host to the largest pow-wow in Southern California. This two-day free event attracts more than 6,000 people per year. Some of the features of the event are Native American dancing, arts, crafts and native foods.

Some of the top 25 largest employers in the CSLB area are Boeing, Long Beach Unified School District, Verizon, Target Stores, Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and the United States Postal Service.
