Maximizing Storage Space

We’re all looking to maximize space, and there are definitely some creative organization methods to help you make the most of the space you have. But, expanding the toolkit of items you have to work with can also significantly help you expand your storage area.

Wondering what items you should pick up in order to be innovative with your small space? Here are six items you might want to purchase!

1. Wire Shelving

It seems as if you can never quite have enough cabinet space. But, have you ever taken a minute to look at how much space you’re actually wasting in your cabinets? Oftentimes, the space between shelves is pretty tall. Or, like the large cabinet under your sink, there simply are no shelves. So, you can toss in one layer of stuff, and the rest of that vertical space goes completely unused.

Pick up some inexpensive wire racks — which are typically meant for the refrigerator — to add an extra level of storage to your cabinets. You’ll quickly double your space, and it will even help you stay more organized!

2. Slim Hangers

If you’re already tight on room in your closet, there’s no use wasting precious space with clunky, bulky hangers. Instead, swap out all of your plastic or wooden hangers for grippy, slim hangers. They take up much less space, and will also keep your sweaters and shirts from sliding off their hangers.

Yes, they can be a little pricey if you buy them pack by pack. However, many bulk retailers — such as Costco — offer large variety packs of these types of hangers at a discounted price.

3. Over the Door Organizer

Think of how many doors are in your home. So, all of that space on the back of your doors? It’s prime storage space that just remains completely unused.

Hang an over the door storage rack on the back of your pantry door that you can use to organize your spices, condiments, and other loose items. Or, hang up a shoe organizer behind your bathroom door and keep smaller toiletry items in the pockets. Doing so is especially handy if you have limited drawer or counter space in your bathroom!

4. Under Bed Storage Bins

If you aren’t currently utilizing the space under your bed, you’re wasting tons of valuable storage real estate! Underneath your bed is the perfect space to store things like extra books and out of season clothing. Invest in some flat, plastic bins that you can easily slide under your bed. That way your items are protected and out of the way!

5. Drawer Organizers

You might feel like you’re taking up valuable drawer space by using drawer organizers. But, you actually end up wasting quite a bit of space in your drawers, simply because you’re disorganized.

So, purchasing some drawer organizers for your kitchen and bathroom is a great idea! They’ll help you keep your belongings organized, which will ensure you keep down on clutter and make adequate use of all of your space!

6. Hooks

There’s only so much you can do with cabinet and drawer space. So, when in doubt, look around for some spots where you can hang up some hooks. In the garage, hooks are great for hanging up bikes and lawn equipment. And, you can install a pot rack in the kitchen to keep your clunky pots and pans out of your cabinets.

Maximizing storage space can definitely be a challenge. But, there are quite a few items that can help you make the most of it! Use this as your shopping list, and you’re sure to expand your storage space in no time!
