Keep reading for seven moving hacks that are sure to help you with packing up and making it through your moving day!
1. Use garbage bags and rubber bands for hanging clothes.
Having to remove all of your clothes from the hangers, only to hang them back up again in your new closet? It’s a total hassle — not to mention a waste of time! So, leave them all on the hangers. Simply grab a bundle of items, use a rubberband to group the hangers together, and then pull a clean garbage bag over the clothing. Voila! No need to spend hours re-hanging things when you move in.
2. Use styrofoam plates to preserve your dishes.
Of course, you don’t want to end up with shattered dishes. But, wrapping every single one of your plates in newspaper or bubble wrap is unnecessarily time consuming. So, purchase some styrofoam plates and use them as layers between your stack of ceramic plates. It will keep them from bouncing against each other and shattering!
3. Pack heavy items in suitcases.
We’ve all dealt with those boxes that split open because the contents are simply too heavy. Avoid this predicament by setting aside all of your heaviest items to be packed away in your suitcases. The sturdy construction, durable handles, and convenient wheels allow for easy transportation — rather than wrestling with an unmanageable box!
4. Utilize your clothes and towels.
You’re packing everything up anyway. So, you might as well use what you can! Wrap fragile items in your shirts and towels. Slide your breakable drinking glasses into your clean socks. Your fragile items are protected, and you’re making great use of items that would otherwise just be taking up space in another box!
5. Find free moving boxes.
Spending money on cardboard seems pretty pointless, doesn’t it? Before heading out to a home improvement store to purchase moving boxes, check out your Craigslist “Free” section. Many people post boxes that they no longer need and are giving away for no cost. It’s way better than having to pay for them!
6. Cover toiletries with saran wrap.
A messy spill of liquid is sure to put a damper on your moving day. Prevent those pesky messes by utilizing saran wrap. Unscrew the top on your liquid toiletries, place a patch of saran wrap over the open top, and then screw the lid back on. Then, rest easy with the knowledge that there’s no way your stuff can spill!
7. Take photos of your electronics.
So, you’ve unplugged your t.v. and computer and then dumped all of the cords into a tangled mess in a box. Now, you realize you have no idea how to plug everything back in again. Before packing up your electronics, snap a quick photo. Then, you can use that as a simple guide for getting everything plugged in and ready to go!
There’s no doubt about it, moving can be a definite hassle. But, these seven quick hacks are sure to take some of the stress out of it for you. Now, if only you could snap your fingers and have it all done! That’s a hack we would absolutely love.
