The University of Oregon, or also called UO, was founded in 1876 as a public, coeducational research university. UO is located in beautiful Eugene, Oregon. The University of Oregon’s ranking in the 2013 Edition of Best Colleges is number 115. The following graduate schools have high rankings: College of Education- Best Education School number 8, Law School- Best Law School number 94;Dispute Resolution number 7; Environmental Law number 8; and Legal Writing number 5, Business School- Best Business Schools number 91.
The University of Oregon is a member of the NCAA’s Division I Pacific-12 Conference (Pac-12). UO has 21 NCAA team championships and 60 NCAA individual champions. The 2 main rivals of the Oregon Ducks are the Washington Huskies and the Oregon State Beavers. The football rivalry with Oregon State, Known as the “Civil War”, is one of the nation’s oldest. UO has 17 varsity sports (7 men and 10 women). The mascot of the University of Oregon is the fighting duck, Disney’s Donald Duck!

A few names that stand out are: co-founder, chairman and former CEO of Nike (also 47th richest person in the world) Phil Knight, playwright of Avenue Q and 2004 Tony Award Winner Jeff Whitty, author best known for writing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest Ken Kesey, NBC News anchor (The Today Show, Dateline, and NBC News) Ann Curry, Owner of the Golden State Warriors Franklin Mieuli, Chairman and CEO of Gucci Robert Polet, Actor (Modern Family) Ty Burrell, and 2012 Summer Olympic Silver Medalist in the 10,000 meters Galen Rupp.
Eugene is a college town, which supports all Oregon Duck teams! The community is very spirited for Duck football or basketball games! The UO campus is beautiful year round, but especially Fall and Spring! There are many outdoor activities to do such as skiing, going to the beach, and traveling to a big city within an hour-and -a-half of Eugene! With more than 250 student groups there is always some thing to do for all students!
