Corpus Christi is located in the southern part of Texas, along the Gulf of Mexico. It has been named after the Corpus Christi College, which is a part of the University of Oxford in England. The city is located in the Nueces County, which it is the seat of, and encompasses parts of San Patricio, Aransas and Kleberg Counties.
The Sparkling City by the Sea
Corpus Christi is known as the Sparkling City by the sea by tourists. It’s a favorite tourist destination, and tourism remains one of the main contributors to the city’s economy. The Port of Corpus Christi is one of the biggest in the country, and the city is an important business for trade, commerce and, of course, tourism. It is also a hub for education in the region.
The distinctive neighborhoods in the city are popular with the tourists, like Flour Bluff, Calallen, Annavile, Gardendale and Clarkwood. The most popular attractions in the city are the Texas State Aquarium, the North Beach and the USS Lexington. The other attractions include the Corpus Christi Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, King Ranch, One Shoreline Plaza and Padre Island National Seashore. Because of its location beside the Gulf of Mexico, Wind sports are popular here.
Two large military outposts, namely the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and the Corpus Christi Army Depot, are located in the city. They are the top employers in the region. The Corpus Christi Army Depot has the distinction of being the largest helicopter repair facility in the world. The other top employers in the city include Whataburger, AEP Texas, the CHRISTUS Spohn Health System and Stripes Convenience Stores.
As a hub for education, there are several colleges and universities in the region. The most noteworthy are the Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi, Our Lady of Corpus Christi and Del Mar College.
