Grand Rapids is the second largest city in the state of Michigan, behind Detroit (which has fallen apart because of anti-business initiatives and unions). It is located to the west of the state, a few miles to the east of Lake Michigan. It is the seat of the Kent County, and is a business hub for the region.
The Furniture City
Grand Rapids has been nicknamed the “Furniture City”, because the top leading furniture makers in the world, like Steelcase, Herman Miller, American Seating and Haworth, operate out of Grand Rapids. The city is home to other well-known companies like Universal Forest Products, Wolverine World Wide, Spartan Stores, and Alticor/Amway. Grand Rapids should thrive now that Michigan has handicapped the unions and gone to a “right to work” state.
Grand Rapids has several well-known universities and colleges. The most prominent amongst them are the Western Michigan University, located in Downtown, the Grand Valley State University in Allandale and the Ferris State University.
Grand Rapids is also known for the Grand Rapids Medical Mile – a group of healthcare related buildings in the city. The Secchia Center for medical education, located on Michigan Street, on Division Avenue, is perhaps the most well-known building in the city. The Butterworth Hospital on the Medical Mile is a level 1 trauma care center. It is estimated that nearly a billion dollars have been invested into the Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, Spectrum Health Cancer Pavilion, and the Van Andel Institute.
The city is also famous for its fruit production. The surrounding area produces fruit like peach, apples, and blueberries.
Self-Storage in Grand Rapids

The cost of renting Grand Rapids Storage units will depend on the size of the unit and the facilities offered along with storage. Some of the common additional amenities offered include interior storage, anti-theft alarm, climate control, electricity access, roll-up doors, swing doors and drive up access.
Basic 5’x5′ Grand Rapids storage facilities will cost anywhere from $20 to $60 per month. For example, the Storage Pros Company at Cornstock Park offers a 5’x5′ storage unit that is located on the first floor, with outdoor access, for $39 per month.
